Beagles' best friend

By: Anonymous - Feb 22, 2010

We bought this bed almost a year ago, and could not be more pleased. The only problem is that our two beagles are constantly fighting over who gets to lay in it. We bought a medium so that they would both fit, and they do, but that doesn't stop the bickering. Extremely durable, washes easily and very comfortable. Five stars.

Great Quality

By: Vanessa - New Orleans Nov 20, 2009

Our dog, who would rather be on our bed than anywhere else, loves this dog bed. It is nice and padded so she can sleep in any number of ridiculous positions and she seems to like that the bolsters prop her up. I've washed the cover a number of times and while the color has faded a little (the striped fabric) it shows no real signs of wear. It is nice that I can wash just the center cushion separately. Definitely worth the price to have a high quality product that wears well. I can't say my dog cares so much about it being eco-friendly, but I do. If I am going to buy things for my dog, I at least want them to reflect the same considerations that weigh in when making purchases for myself.

Mushy insides

By: Anonymous - Aug 28, 2009

we bought our lab the westpaw bed less than a year ago. While the covers look great the actual insert material is lumpy and uncomfortable looking. This is very surprising to us because WestPaw claims to have cushions that will not bunch after use. Our dog has three of these XL beds and they no longer look comfortable at all. I would recommend other brands over
this poorly made bed.

Great Investment

By: April - MA Aug 09, 2009

I can't get my pug out of this bed.  We purchased it for her over a year ago, and it's held up beautifully to multiple washings and heavy use.  My only complaint is that the inserts do not wash well, but those only need to be laundered if there's an "accident".  If you're concerned about the initial investment, understand that this bed was built to last, looks great (I love the new color options), and will be LOVED by your dog.

Both my dogs love this bed

By: Kristena - Copperas Cove, TX Mar 11, 2009

After having multiple dog beds that just wouldn't keep our Weimaraner off our bed we decided to get him one of these. We couldn't have made a better choice as he'll now sleep through the night on this.

Now we just need to get another one for our Great Dane as they both try to fit in the one we have!

Great for Big Dogs!

By: Amber Mathison - Stevensville, MT Jan 22, 2009

This is by far the best bed ever! We have a Golden Retriever and an Akita and they love their beds. Our Golden is a "nester" and loves to dig in around the bumper, but he also enjoys sleeping on his back. Quite a funny site!

We tend to have problems finding a bed for our Akita. She weighs approx 100 lbs and with other beds, she sinks to the bottom. What is the point? This bed keeps her afloat! She looks so cozy laying on it. I get jealous!

Great Bed TERRIBLE ZIPPER

By: Chris - Roanoke, TX Jan 19, 2009

This is by far the best bed I have ever bought for my dog from a durability stand point. My Boston Terrier absolutely loves it. However, I have had this bed for about 9 months and have always had problems with the zipper on the bupper portion of the cover. After the cover is washed according to the washing instructions the zipper will skip on the zipper links and not zip back together properly. It takes a lot of picking and working the zipper for it to zip back together correctly. I always dread having to put the bed back together after each wash. I have been in contact with West Paw and they seem to take the complaint seriously and are working with me on a possible replacement of the cover.

Great for both cats and dogs

By: Heidi - St Paul MN Jan 11, 2009

I first got one for my elderly kitty, and she loves it! I've had this bed for over two years, washed it several times, and its as sturdy and good looking as when it was new. I have another one for my Beagle, which he also loves. Can't recommend this product highly enough - as well as this terrific company!

Company as good as the bed

By: Chris - MN Nov 11, 2008

We've had this bed now for almost 4 months and while we like the attractiveness and its eco-friendly qualities, our dog loves it even more. That's the true testament. And it's made close to our home state of MN, which is another great selling point.

We've washed the cover a handful of times already and it still looks great. The fabric has held up well to the aggressive "bed-making" of our greyhound.

Just last night, however, while putting the cover back over the bolsters, the zipper kept splitting in multiple places--a huge disappointment. This morning, I called West Paw and was blown away with the customer service. I can't say that I've ever been treated more respectfully over the phone and my problem was solved within a minute. A replacement cover is being shipped tomorrow.

For anyone on the fence about getting this bed, buy it. The cost reflects the quality of both the product and the company. We have another bed we purchased from a big box store for $40 and after just a few weeks, it was looking shabby and the filling was flat. Think of the bed as an investment in the well-being of your pet.

Great bed and made in the U.S.A!

By: Joanna Metzger - Libertyville, IL Oct 22, 2008

The is the best bed I've ever seen or purchased. It is very durable, washable and is made in the good 'ole U.S.A.

The "other" beds at the large chain stores cannot compete and they are not durable like this.

I will be purchasing another.

My Bulldog Loves It

By: - delaware Jan 04, 2008

Bought the bed in MA at a place called "pets gone healthy" I have had my bulldog Jayda for only a few months, and would not sleep on any beds, Once I bought this she can not get off of it. Quality product, very strong. Have recomended it to several friends who have purchased the west paw toys as well. We all have the same story to say. Do not waste money on other beds that will not last.

Great Design!

By: Deb - New York Jan 08, 2008

I purchased this bed several months ago for my golden. This is one of the only beds he truly likes to snuggle into despite trying/returning several other styles of dog beds. The design of this bed is fabulous & my dog really likes the bolster to rest his head on.

My only complaint about this bed is the fabric attracts way too much pet hair. It would be great if West Paw used a different type of fabric that did a better job of repelling pet fur than the one they currently use. Every day I have to use one of those sticky tape rollers over the bed to remove all the fur on it. I'm not sure if this problem is unique to me or the breed of dog I have - or possibly my color (chocolate bolster) choice?

Other than that - the Bumper Bed is fabulous!

Better than the others

By: LG - illinois Feb 27, 2008

Recently bought a large striped bumper bed for our large goldendoodle. She was very attached to her other (worn out) bed so I wasn't sure how she would take to this new bed. She LOVES it! She likes to snuggle in the middle and rest her head on the bumper edge. The fabric is great and it looks fantastic in my son's room. Spend the $$$; these beds are worth it. I'm about to buy two more for other areas in the house.

CHIHUAHUA IN HEAVEN

By: Kelly McDonald - Boston, MA Feb 21, 2008

My spoiled Chihuahua has two of these beds (actually, on organic) in our apartment, and spends every second he can in them. I have bad allergies, and love that these can be easily washed. Love that they are eco-friendly, and that best of all, the material holds up and looks good. We are getting another rescue Chihuahua on Saturday, hopefully he is willing to share his two beds!

Putty fabric (twill?) not as tough ..

By: Kristin - New Jersey Mar 12, 2008

... as the chocolate fabric (denim?).

We have two dogs - and therefore two beds. They do love to chew -- and the putty fabric of the bumper bed just isn't as durable as the chocolate fabric.

They are great beds -- but I wish I would have known there was a fabric difference before buying.

Mr.

By: - Montana Nov 18, 2007

My Dogs love this bed! I was amazed with the fabric it is made of - very durable! The cushioning is not like other beds - it is really fluffy and springs back again and again. Our dogs get dirty, too often - I love that you can wash the interior as well as the cover!

We have a couple West Paw Bumper Beds. The design is great - my dogs all love to curl up in the center and then rest their heads on the bumpers. It is so cute!

Thanks for making such a great bed for our hairy kids!!

Sleepy Time

By: Jennifer - Alabama Apr 17, 2008

Our toy poodle liked this bed from the beginning. She fits comfortably curled up or stretched out. The stripes are good for concealing dirt, but the fabric seems very durable. Our poodle likes to hear her claws as she's "making herself a bed." The hampton stripe is more pink than red...cute and girly, in my opinion.

Need to clean your dog bed?  No problem - these beds were designed to be washed again and again.  You can wash the entire bed, cover and inner-pillows:

For quick washes (covers only):

  • Machine Wash on COLD/COLD.
  • Machine Dry on LOW heat.
For deeper cleanings, you may wash the entire bed.  Since every washer and dryer are different, we recommend different strategies to different people. If you have a machine that is known to be tough on clothing (catching or tearing fabric), then we suggest you leave the insert pillow in its cover during the wash. However, if your washer machine is a front loading machine with a gentle history, then you may separate the pillow insert from the cover, inspect inserts, and wash all parts:
  • Machine Wash on COLD/COLD using GENTLE cycle.
  • Machine Dry on LOW heat. (See extra note below)
Important Notes:
  1. If there is a tear in the white covering, or if an area of weakness is noticed, be sure to have these areas fixed or replaced before washing. If a damaged pillow is washed, the IntelliLoft™ fill could clog drains (not to mention is no fun to clean up).
  2. When drying our larger size beds, be sure that the bed is freely tumbling.  If one area of the bed is pushed against the heating element and does not rotate, the heat could damage the fabric.
  3. Be sure to "zip close" any zippers. This helps protect the zipper during the wash and gives it a longer life.
