Pet Business magazine spoke with Spencer Williams, owner of West Paw Design, about the greening of the Pet Industry in the recent "Last Word" article. In just three quick questions, Spencer was able to discuss the trends that are driving more and more stores to carry "green" pet toys and beds. With more manufacturers beginning to jump on the "green bandwagon" it is getting difficult to know what is authentically green.

Pet Age Magazine has announced its Pinnacle Awards - highlighting readers' favorite products of 2009. We are honored that our eco cat toys received the honor of "Readers' Favorite!" Have you checked out Fish for cat and Flower for cat? Both are made from 85% recycled eco fabric and are stuffed with USDA certified organic catnip. They are also certified safe!
Our eco-friendly attitude doesn’t just stop with the products we make - even our building represents our commitment to the environment. Instead of using traditional building techniques, we constructed the exterior walls from 10-foot wide concrete panels which made it possible to relocate and reuse the 140 foot southern wall rather than demolishing it during our expansion.
Dealers who have been selling West Paw Design products for a while know to expect new items and changes to our line twice a year. Sometimes it is tough to keep track of exactly what changed - but not any more! The Dealer Direct page is not only helpful in letting you know how fast we are shipping and any current stock shortages, but there is even a whole section called “2010 Spring Updates” that shows exactly what is new, what has changed and what was discontinued in the release of the catalog. Since you typically only need to see this area once, we’ve set it to be hidden and out of the way by default. All you need to do is click on the blue title “2010 Spring Updates” to expand the list.
Dealers who choose to have packages drop shipped directly to their customers can now place their orders online and upload their own Packing Slip for West Paw Design to print out and include with the shipped order.In the Checkout screen, simply choose “Drop Shipping” below the delivery Information, and a place will appear where you can browse and upload your own packing slip. It’s just that easy!
We’ve made some big changes to our website in the past few months... perhaps too many for you to follow?! However, there are a few that we felt would really help save you time and make ordering quicker and easier than ever. The Quick Order Tool is only for dealers - and has the ability to save tons of time! In every dealer’s Shopping Cart there is a “Quick Order” line where you can type in a product name (or even the start of a product’s name). You’re able to add product without ever leaving your shopping cart. Since the Quick tool keeps the same search results for you, it is easy and quick to add more of the same products in different sizes and colors.
A big congratulations to the Recycled Retriever! We saw the January Issue of Pet Age Magazine and loved reading the "Counter Intelligence" article that explained how the Recycled Retriever "Exemplifies several budget-friendly design ideas." Their store looked great! We loved how they chose to keep with white walls and white fixtures allowing the product to be their "Splash of Color."
West Paw Design extended a challenge nationwide to create a Winter Window Display featuring our products as the main focus. Several stores responded to compete for the prestigious bragging rights and a nice little bonus in their respective shopping accounts. We are very proud to announce the winners below:
There are some sad friends of West Paw Design that are having to say goodbye to some of their favorite dog toys: Bow Wowzer Ball and Fling Thing. It is true: due to the much more popular Zogoflex toys gaining more and more popularity, West Paw Design has had to make a tough choice and discontinue the two Enduroplay toys that were made in Canada. These toys were known for their light weight, which made them great for water play and indoor play.
